"My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: New Fairy Tales" with Kate Bernheimer, Kelly Link, Kathryn Davis, and Maria Tatar at 2010 Boston Book Festival [podcast]
Neil Gaiman presumably could not be torn away from his young goth bride, and Joyce Carol Oates had already been hired to give the keynote. But the two most famous contributors to My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: 40 New Fairy Tales -- an anthology of "new stories sewn from old skins" -- are not necessarily its best. Editor KATE BERNHEIMER gathered two of her favorites -- KELLY LINK and KATHRYN DAVIS -- to read from their stories, and brought along Harvard folklore goddess MARIA TATAR to riff on the place of fairy tales in the 21st century. This panel easily walked away with the award for best-named presentation, and an unscientific eyeball scan of the audience suggested that it drew the most emo audience of the day.
