Hell freezes over: Oedipus to broadcast annual Christmas Eve radio show . . . on WFNX

If there's a more shocking Boston radio story this year than the death of WBCN, it's this: legendary 'BCN program director OEDIPUS returning to the airwaves to deliver his long-running Christmas show . . . on fomerly-arch-rival station WFNX. Oedipus's Christmas-Eve broadcasts had been a staple on WBCN for three decades. The Oedipus Christmas Eve show will now run commercial-free on Thursday, December 24th, from 6pm until midnight, on WFNX 101.7 FM and streaming live at www.wfnx.net

Of course, since the demise of WBCN, the FNX/BCN rivalry is all water under the bridge. Oedipus has been quite vocal in his displeasure with CBS corporate management and the way it destroyed his beloved 'BCN.

“Christmas came early for me this year,” Oedipus said.  “A Boston tradition lives on – Christmas music heard nowhere else – most appropriately on Boston’s heritage alternative radio station, WFNX.”

According to WFNX's Mike Tierney, “Music lovers of all ages have been coming out of the woodwork, literally begging us to put it on WFNX.  By the time Oedipus reached out to me, I couldn’t tell whether he was pitching me or if I should be pitching him.”

In a press release, WFNX said the Christmas-eve show on WFNX "will again feature music from Oedipus’ carefully cultivated collection of holiday music, along with other exclusive Christmas-themed surprises from the show’s host, its listeners, and even the occasional world famous rock star."
