Right-Wing smear? "Mary Jo Kopechne" overtakes "Ted Kennedy" on Twitter's Trending Topics

We expected a right-wing smear campaign against the late Ted Kennedy, but who knew the Republican attack machine could out-Twitter its progressive rivals? The late Ted Kennedy was enjoying a ride at the top of Twitter's trending topics earlier today -- following what we feel ought to be called the #MJbump -- but even this morning it became clear that a backlash was brewing, even in 140-characters-or-less land.

That's now become something of an orchestrated movement, as ghoulishly insensitive right-wingers bumped Ted out of the top spot. Well, one ghoulishly-insensitive right-winger, actually. It was Rush Limbaugh, and he helped move JAY-Z into the top spot by responding to Jigga's new diss track

But evidently there's another vast conspiracy afoot, which has now succeeded in moving the search term "Mary Jo Kopechne" -- the victim of Chappaquiddick -- ahead of the late Senator. If you want to get a taste of right-wing bile, this has become the non-hashtagged battle to follow. To help, we're setting up the feeds below so you can watch in real-time.

KENNEDY                                                           KOPECHNE

Hate to break this to everyone in the north-east but the Kennedy family is just one of millions of families in this great nation.  Any other person in the country would still be in prison if they were DUI when they killed someone else and waited 10 hours to go to the authorities.  The founders fought for laws that applied to everyone.  Elites are not above the law.  I wouldn't want to be in his shoes now.

I am far from a "right winger" but I have always felt Ted Kennedy got away with murder all those years ago. Maybe now MJ Kopechne and her family can rest in peace. They should rename the bridge in her honor so she is never forgotten. If Ted's last name wasn't Kennedy, Mary Jo might have gotten the justice she deserved at the time.

There is no vast right wing conspiracy at work here - just outrage that a young girl from New Jersey was considered "expendable".  It is not for me to judge - so I won't - but Mary Jo Kopechne has never been forgotten by THIS Jersey Girl!

    Right Wingers???

C'mon....spin the story around..you know...long time republican senator passes...you don't think that the far left would bring up the mysterious death of Mary Jo?

    Let's be real...ok?

What does murder have to do with right or left-wing?

I'm very left, and Ted Kennedy was a murderer and got away with it because he's rich. Maybe this is a NON-PARTISAN issue and folks of any persuasion don't like it when a rich man lets a woman suffocate to death and goes on to live a long and prosperous life. And the news media has the gall to commemorate him. Not everything is black and white, right or left. The news media is very sadly lacking in real factual research, which is why we now have to resort to Twitter.

It's funny watching the leftist media hacks spin everything regular Americans do these days as a "right-wing" campaign, conspiracy, astroturfing, etc., while they spout standard left-wing propaganda, ignore donks bussing in SEIU thugs to events, etc. It's called "projection."

Here's a hint leftwing hacks: The reason you project your side's mendacity upon regular Americans is that you are so out of touch with reality that you no longer understand genuine emotion when you see it.

Right Wing smear campaign, Very Funny!!!!! Some people choose to cherry pick the facts to suit their agendas.

Mary Jo is now getting the justice she deserves. Too bad it took her and her family 40 years to get it.

Ted Kennedy's most important event in his life was the manslaughter of Mary Jo Kopechne.

His wannabe Socialist leader garbage was pathetic posturing by a drunk, bloated spoiled rich jerk.

As Jimmy Carter pointed out, Kennedy never even got a Health Care Bill out of committee.  And, Kennedy's problem wasn't Chappaquidick, it was character, and being a man who panicked in a crisis.

For G-d's sake!  Are liberals born incapable of rational thought and wired to respond strictly with emotion and conspiracy theories?  Or do they acquire that dubious 'skill' through years of effort?  This macaroon is absolutely devoid of critical thought.  "Right Wing Bile", "Ghoulishly Insensitive Right Wingers" and "Vast Conspiracy" ?

Ted Kennedy was an alcoholic murderous piece of dung.  Only a fool would actually write this kind of tripe, and only an idiot would publish it.  Stupidity is the currency of liberals, and this piece is proof positive that liberalism is a mental disorder.

I UNDERSTAND THAT KENNEDY'S FAMILY PAID A SETTLEMENT TO MARY JO'S TO LET THE ISSUE DIE BACK IN 1969. PART OF THE DEAL WAS TO NOT DISCUSS ANY OF THE FACTS PUBLICLY UNTIL TEDDY WAS 6 FEET UNDER.

I ANTICIPATE A LOT OF UGLINESS COMING FORTH AND THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF FOLKS WITH EGG ON THEIR FACES ( MEDIA TYPES ) WHEN THIS THING FUNS ITS COURSE. TED NEEDED TO QUIT THE SENATE MANY YERAS AGO. HE HASN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON FOR SOEM TIME. HE WAS JUST A SURE VOTE FOR HIS PARTY. NOTHING MORE. LION OF THE SENATE? MORE LIKE LIAR OF THE SENATE...

maybe now the Kapechne family can have some peace, now that Teddy is gone. He should have been convicted of man-slaughter, but since he was a "Kennedy" he got a free ride. Rest in Peace Mary Jo.

Oh yeah, Right Wingers are ghoulish for pointing a finger at the monster Ted Kennedy for his alcohol induced homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne, yeah right. Well, I was thinking that the new slogan for the Ted Kennedy health care system known as "Chappaquiddick Health Care" could be something like, "Chappaquiddick Health Care, with all the compassion Ted Kennedy had towards Mary Jo Kopechne... don't you think it's time for you to die? Wouldn't the world be better off without you? You are a burden to society, you contribute nothing to the world. Isn't it time that you died?" Yeah, I think that sums up ObamaCare now known as "Chappaquiddick Health Care".

and include a large photo of her.

This is one way to counter the media adoration of their "great" man.

I remember well as a child how upset my mother was in 1969 when "Teddy" got off! Although she voted for JFK, that turned her sour on the Kennedy's forever.  How sad for the parents to loose their only daughter. Thank heavens they are not here to witness all the sickening adoration of him in the media! And how terrible it is for the country to adore Kennedy with such a lack of character in 1969.

My God, you are a moron.  A smear is something that is untrue.  Saying that Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo Kopechne (or to put it as charitably as you can for the old drunkard, directly caused her death) is, to use a technical term, 100% absofuckinglutely true.
