Review: Michael Jackson's This Is It

Is this it?

The Star Wars–style titles that begin Kenny Ortega’s hastily assembled Michael Jackson tribute documentary explain that the film has been whittled down from 100 hours of behind-the-scenes video shot between last April and June during rehearsals for the King of Pop’s planned 50-date “This Is It” London concert series. The footage, most of it in hi-def, was intended for Jackson’s private consumption, but “with the permission of his estate” (and no doubt to the relief of the show’s investors, who stood to lose millions due to his untimely death), the resulting movie offers a glimpse of what might have been.

“For the fans,” concludes the ridiculously long-winded opening title crawl. That’s for sure.

For those expecting something deeper than Ortega’s High School Musical trilogy, this ain’t it.

Re: Review: Michael Jackson's This Is It
This is it?? Not at all what I expected. Michael doesn't do his scene in his white jacket and pance like in the preview. Hi does not where his bright sparkling pants either. Just wondering why in the preview you see things and in the movie you don't see them at all. Not fair .l... THE MOVIE WAS BORING.....IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.....THEY HAD MORE FOOTAGE THAN THIS TO CHOOSE FROM.

This was phenomenal!!! Much more than I expected and a true testament to Michael's overall health and presence of mind, not to mention over the top talent.  He is a genius as well as a loving soul.  What a loss.

Re: Review: Michael Jackson's This Is It
I absolutley enjoyed this movie!!! It was everything I thought it would be and more! For anyone who thought the movie wasn't good..you obviously saw the movie expecting more. Why? What did you expect the movie footage to be like? Please dont bring a negative spirit about the movie here b/c its not needed. For every fan who felt like they knew Micheal should have felt his presence and literally had a smile on their face throughout the movie! It was great, sensational and I definetly would recommend anyone to see it. From a Real Micheal Jackson fan, I love you!! I will continue to spread the love you gave on the last days of your life here on earth. Rest in Peace..you will live in us forever!!!

Have you walked near a college campus lately? You might notice that the ’80s are creeping into fashion, the way the ’70s did a few years back, and with the same lack of irony. It’s happening in cinemas, too — something that’s not entirely unwelcome when it comes to the horror genre.
