After a couple of weeks of watching the summer fare make way for the towers of autumn offerings (follow the progress of Madeira Liquors' Wall of Fall at their Facebook page), we were thrilled to see new brews from Sierra Nevada and Firestone Walker on the shelves.

The former just released its second BEER CAMP variety 12-pack, with intriguing beers that were concocted at SN's annual summits in Northern California (the next one is December 5-7; contest details are at sierrabeercamp.com). The 2012 lineup:

IMPERIAL RED ALE (8.1%): This amber beauty is a double IPA in disguise. Perfect balance of big hops and spicy malt.

FLORAL IPA (5.9%) lives up to its name, with the addition of rose hips and petals. A lighter, sweeter IPA than SN's usual fare.

IMPERIAL PILSNER (5.6% ABV): The "imperial" designation refers to the heightened hop presence. It's a full-flavored take on the often-staid style.

OATMEAL STOUT (9%): This beer deserves the imperial tag — a hearty, roasty, chocolatey delight. (In October, Sierra Nevada will release a true Imperial Stout, sans oatmeal, in four-packs.)

This is a rewarding collection from the always reliable craft giant. The limited edition boxes cost $20.
