Attend this film fest: Roxbury International Film Festival at the MFA

One of Boston's most vital and exciting film events, the Roxbury International Film Festival, now in its 13th year, begins tonight with Davey Frankel and Rasselas Lakew's The Athlete (2009), a biopic mixing dramatization and documentary about Abebe Bikila, the first black African to win an Olympic gold medal in the men's marathon - which he ran barefoot, no less. When an accident leaves him unable to walk, Bikila must face an even more daunting challenge. A Q&A with co-director Lakew, who also stars as Bikila, follows the screening at the Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston | Thursday, July 28 @ 8 pm | $11; $9 students, seniors | mfa.org/programs/series/roxbury-international-film-festival
