This past weekend, the WFNX Sapporo House was a haven for bands escaping Coachella's Empire Polo Grounds, doing some radio interviews and dropping a few acoustic "kitchen sets." Friday afternoon, the flash blokes in British rock band KASABIAN dropped by for a chat, then while everyone else was out in the back by the pool or chilling in the living room, vocalist Tom Meighan, guitarist Serge Pizzorno, and drummer Ian Matthews saddled up to the kitchen table for some acoustic numbers.

After Sunday night’s Tupac Shakur holla-gram at Coachella, we still have glowing dead rock and rap stars on the brain (plus, we’re still out here in Indio and there’s not much to do after the bands leave beyond getting drunk at the Beer Hunter down the street). Yesterday we asked via the Phoenix Facebook profile what defunct bands should headline Coachella 2013 with the help of the same 3-D technology that resurrected Tupac.

At a mass gathering like the COACHELLA MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL, there's pretty much 90,000 people all standing around in a field taking pictures of random things with their camera phones. It's pretty much like Pulp's 1996 single "Sorted For E's & Wizz," except swag out the drugs in favor of iPhones.

MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA and GROUPLOVE have been hanging out at the WFNX Coachella House, resulting in this impromptu collaboration recorded around the kitchen table. So here it is: Nirvana's "Something in the Way," sans accompaniment.

If you saw JEFF MANGUM during his solo tour -- the one that landed him in Boston and Cambridge last fall -- you pretty much saw what he did at Coachella. In terms of surprises: he's added a brass section for some of the Aeroplane tunes, but we're not going to increase the excitement index until he adds a drummer and a fuzzbox.

Lindsay Lohan didn't stop by the WFNX Sapporo House at Coachella yesterday, but pretty much everyone else did. And we'd like to give a special shout-out to FANFARLO -- whom we'd have ranked as the least likely band to strip to their skivvies and jump in our pool, although that's exactly what they did.

Twenty five minutes was all she needed. Actually, she sealed the deal within the first few.

New York rapper/pop-murderer AZEALIA BANKS set the Gobi Tent on fire this afternoon at Coachella, blasting through a handful of fresher-than-fuck hits with a carnivorous set that sent the crowd into a vulgar frenzy.

The last time I saw JAMES at a large-scale outdoor music festival, the year was 1997 and the scene was a brewing tempest called Lollapalooza. The influential 30-year-old British rock band was supporting a sharp new record Whiplash, but in reality, was still buzzing off the unlikely success of late-night 1993 MTV hit “Laid,” a single that crashed the stateside modern rock underground and in the UK got them swept up as an auxiliary, almost elder-statesmen members of Britpop's cultural tidal wave.

While the Phoenix crew stormed the Polo Grounds yesterday afternoon, our Sapporo-swilling siblings at WFNX stayed behind and hung out with Patrick from the Black Keys, the Arctic Monkeys, and Other Lives. We're blearily trying to piece together the rest of what happened last night, but we're posting the interviews from these three before beginning a marathon Saturday that's bringing 12 bands to the WFNX house.

The internet broke twice yesterday, first around noon when At the Drive-In tweeted out their unexpected reunion news, and then roughly seven hours later when COACHELLA unveiled its incredible 2012 lineup. We've digested the attractive headliners (Radiohead, Black Keys, Dre), the surprise reunions (Refused, fIREHOSE, ATDI), and that one famed Britpop heavyweight booking that almost makes up for another year without The Smiths (Pulp! Come on down, your blank check is right over here in Tent B!).

Not bad Coachella, not bad at all.

This year's music and arts fest in the California desert multiplies itself over two consecutive weekends this April, and upon first lineup glance, the list of performing acts seems lighter than in year's past, perhaps a result of the doubling-up festival organizers are experimenting with in 2012 (April 13-15, 20-22).

As promised last week, COACHELLA made its "big announcement for 2012" this morning, and no, it's not a Smiths reunion. California's already-massive spring music and arts festival will double in size next year, expanding across two weekends under the blazing Indio sun to accomodate increasing ticket demand.

So here it is -- the moment where a normally stoic and disaffected alt-weekly music editor completely loses his fucking SHIT interviewing Britpop kickstarters SUEDE just a few hours before their set at Coachella, the band’s first performance on U.S. soil since 1997. It’s the same old show -- it’s the killing of a fanboy, oh.

There was a point during Sunday night's STROKES performance at Coachella, sometime between a fuck ton of people in an open field singing the chorus of "Hard To Explain" and catching Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons grabbing WFNX's Paul Driscoll and going bat-shit bonkers, when all the Angles talk, comeback critiques, and dissertations about the current state of New York's greatest rock band of the 2000s just.
