Boston Phoenix partners with MySpace Music
to name America’s 51 best new bands
BOSTON, Mass (July 8, 2010) – The Boston Phoenix today unveiled its 3rd annual summer feature, “America’s Best New Music,” rounding up the best new musical artist from each of the 50 states.
This year, for the first time, the Phoenix has partnered with MySpace Music to power the online, interactive version of the feature. At http://thephoenix.com/50states, fans can vote for their favorite artist, and also listen to these emerging artists’ audio and video tracks on MySpace Music.
Last year’s “America’s 50 Best New Bands” was recognized by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies as the year’s best converged online/print feature in America. Not only will Phoenix readers be able to enjoy our country’s musical landscape as an online feature and vote for their favorite artist on thephoenix.com/50states, but they will also have the opportunity to listen to these emerging artists’ audio and video tracks on MySpace Music, making “50 bands in 50 states” a multi sensory experience.
The argument-inducing picks include artists who’ve already generated some of their own buzz – including the metallic glitch-pop duo Sleigh Bells (New York) and post-grunge surf rock gal Best Coast (California). In between, the Phoenix shines a light on these fly-over state highlights:
