Off the Couch: Mixing it up

From Party Pigs to Wolfbane Blues
By CHRIS CONTI  |  December 4, 2013

The Met is the only place to be this THURSDAY (the 5th) —last call for Brooklyn rhyme phenom Mr. MFN eXquire, with support from Spocka Summa, Star Life, Midday, and local crew Reziztanze; the show is all ages and $14 at the door. Trust me, you need eXquire in your life; call 401.729.1005 for show details. Don’t let the shitty weather scare you away from the Ocean Mist, which will host the Mallett Brothers on FRIDAY (the 6th). Meanwhile, Dusk (401.714.0444) does it again with the return of Philly’s St. James & the Apostles, plus bloodpheasant (featuring Shannon from Gertrude Atherton), Party Pigs, and renowned badass siblings VulGarrity, all for just $5 at the door! On SATURDAY (the 7th), Nick-a-Nee’s hosts another fantastic freebie with the Tim Taylor Blues Band (21+, 401.861.7290); then swing by AS220 (401.831.9327) for Von Donovan, Pink Eye, No Ocean, and Improper Dosage. Another solid weekend at the Met features A Wilhelm Scream (CD release), The Down & Outs, The Holy Mess, and Half-Hearted Hero on Saturday; then get back there on SUNDAY (the 8th) at 5 pm for the legendary NRBQ with Happiness (featuring members of Ravi Shavi and Deer Tick) and Original Jelly Roll Soul. Start your Sunday with the hypnotic serenades of Allysen Callery at Custom Coffee House in Portsmouth starting at 2 pm (401.682.2600). Ahead to next THURSDAY (the 12th), the Salon delivers a great triple-dip led by The Denver Boot, with Wolfbane Blues and Consuelo’s Revenge. And don’t look now but we have a Triangle Forest sighting! TF will join Winter Line, Delphic Oracle, and Azar Swan at AS220 (401.831.9327).
