The Coming Council Age Gap?
Regular readers of this blog may know that one of my grand theories of the world is that political power in this country will be passed, over time, directly from the Baby Boomers to the Millennials -- totally skipping my loser generation, GenX.
One anomaly has been the Boston City Council, where GenX has held its own. Of the 13 members, 6 are pretty undeniably in that age range. Yoon, Flaherty, Tobin, and Consalvo are all 39. Ross is 36 and Connolly is 35 if I'm not mistaken.
There's already a 10-year gap between that group and the rest, who are all roughly between age 50 and 60.
But Yoon and Flaherty are leaving to run for mayor, and it's quite possible that either John Tobin or Rob Consalvo will jump into the race for Marian Walsh's state senate seat.
And I don't know if you've noticed, but the group of candidates trying to get in mostly range from young to younger. Other than Jean-Claude Sanon, I think Ego Ezedi is the oldest at 36.
