Tito's In -- And Garza In Dist. 1!
Two interesting updates for Boston City Council elections. First, Tito Jackson of Dorchester -- whose potential candidacy I've mentioned a couple of times -- has pulled papers for the at-large race. Jackson works in the state's Office of Business Development and is quite the social and community activist. (Another clue that he's running for office -- he's replaced his fun/goofy Facebook picture with a serious suit-and-tie head shot.)
Also, an unexpected name has popped up as a district candidate: Laura Garza of East Boston, who pulled papers to run against Sal LaMattina in District 1. I have not had a chance to talk with Garza yet, but she's a fascinating individual: she was the 1996 Vice Presidential candidate for the Socialist Workers Party. More recently, she ran against Michael Capuano for Congress in 2006, and managed to get 9% of the vote.
