3:00 Update

According to Election Department figures obtained by the Phoenix, 42,527 had voted in Boston as of 3:00, keeping the city on pace for roughly 75,000 ballots by my projection. 

That 42,527 is 87% of the 48,870 who had voted by 3:00 in the 2006 gubernatorial primary.

South Boston's Wards 6 & 7 are the only two wards with higher turnout than in the 2006 gubernatorial primary, as of 3:00. That figures to be good news for Michael Flaherty (and, perhaps, Steve Murphy).

Jamaica Plain's numbers are not so hot -- by my calculation, they are voting at just 77% their 2006 rate so far. Probably not good news for Sam Yoon.

Also probably not good for JP resident Felix G. Arroyo, who is counting on those JP progressives among his coalition. Perhaps that's why his campaign sent out an email blast headed "Numbers aren't where we need them..." Or, that could just be a typical GOTV ploy.

The only neighborhood doing worse than JP (compared with '06) is Wards 4 & 5 -- Back Bay, South End, Fenway, Beacon Hill -- where clearly my role moderating the candidate forums turned everybody off of politics....
