Dennis Lehane |
From Page to Screen | A.M. Homes, Dennis Lehane, Tom Perrotta | Host: Ty Burr
1:30 pm, John Hancock Hall at the Back Bay Events Center, 180 Berkeley Street
Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr will moderate a discussion with three novelists whose books have been made into movies. Will the claws come out? Did Dennis Lehane tell Martin Scorsese that Shutter Island was overwrought? How on earth did he feel when Clint Eastwood decided to direct Mystic River? Did Casey Affleck's behavior on the set of Gone Baby Gone in any way indicate he was capable of something as self-indulgent as I'm Still Here? Next to Lehane, Tom Perrotta's experiences with the flicks must be fairly benign, but if we're lucky, he'll dish about Reese Witherspoon (Election) or Kate Winslet (Little Children). (If you miss Perrotta here, you can see him discuss his story "The Smile on Happy Chang's Face" with Mayor Tom Menino at 2:30 pm at Church of the Covenant, 67 Newbury Street.) Poor A.M. Homes: she's the only author on the panel whose adapted works didn't take home any Oscars, and both Jack and The Safety of Objects thudded at the box office. Perhaps she'll have the most interesting anecdotes of all.
