More internecine Republican strife

I'd missed this, and I bet I'm not the only one: On Sunday, the MetroWest Daily News ran an op-ed by Chris Egan, who--along with his father Richard and brother Michael--was a George W. Bush "Pioneer" in 2004.

Basically, Egan complains that the Massachusetts GOP was AWOL as Boston-based Fidelity Investments began looking into a big North Carolina expansion. Sometimes Egan blames Ranch Kimball, the state's secretary of economic development. Sometimes he actually seems to blame Governor Mitt Romney.

What makes Egan's piece especially weird is that he's reportedly a member of LG Kerry Healey's finance team. Obviously, this raises a bevy of questions. Did Egan have Healey's blessing to write the piece? If so, is she trying to disassociate herself from Romney's economic legacy? And does she really think she could pull this off? If not, what in God's name is going on here?

It's no surprise that Jim Rappaport has bad things to say about the current incarnation of the Mass. GOP. But Egan's rant confounds me.

Any thoughts?

Sometimes Adam, there is no reason. Young Egan must think his opinion matters and he wants the adults to 'look at him'. "Why can't everyone be as smart as me - and my father?" Sorry for being stereotypical, but many of these 1st generation children of self made men are captive in their own little worlds. Funny, Jim Rappaport is also one of them. I doubt Healy had any knowledge of this. Egan is only important because his father has alot of money and can raise alot of money, especially from all the people that his money supports. It's pretty easy for jr. to inject himself into a non-debate such as this, but really, we all know his opinion does not matter except among other spoiled boys who want their name in the paper.

payback, the oldest reason in the book: "Romney quashed a move last year by Christopher F. Egan, the scion of the EMC Corp. fortune and one of the governor's leading fund-raisers, to be appointed president of the Massachusetts Economic Development Authority. Romney's refusal tested his relationship with the Egan family, which has raised huge donations for the GOP." from the Boston Globe archive

right, a hissy fit. He wanted the appointment because he deserved it - his daddy is rich. The old man had trouble being an ambassador because he had to kiss ass in Ireland and take orders from Washington. Now the kid has to show he can fight back against those who slight him. Stomp your feet Chrissy, real mature.
