Goodridges split

The plaintiffs in the Massachusetts SJC's landmark gay-marriage case are no longer a couple, according to Bay Windows.

As Neil Sedaka noted, this kind of thing is hard to do, period. What sucks for Julie and Hillary Goodridge, obviously, is that their separation will almost certainly become talk-radio fodder.

I called the ombudsman at the Boston Globe to complain about the headline on today's front-page story on the Goodridges. I found it highly misleading. It read: "After 2 Years, Same-Sex Marriage Icons Split Up." The impression one would get is that the couple married on a whim to help pass the same-sex marriage legislation and then divorced soon after. If you don't know the couple had been together SEVENTEEN years before the legislation you would come away with a very sour view of their marriage. Unfair!
