Governor's race a snoozer?

So says the Globe's Russell Nichols, who begins his article on the Tom Reilly-Deval Patrick tax battle thusly:

The sleepy governor's race stirred to life yesterday, with Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly charging that voters "cannot trust" Democratic rival Deval L. Patrick on taxes, and Patrick firing back that Reilly has switched positions on the issue. [emphasis added]

What in Sam Hill is going on here?!?

Call me naive, but I'd say the gov's race has been pretty dramatic, at least on the Democratic side. Tom Reilly looked to have the nomination locked up, then botched things horribly earlier this year. Deval Patrick went from obscure insurgent to frontrunner. Chris Gabrieli got revenge on Reilly (who'd wooed and then spurned him as a running mate) by jumping in the race late, spending zillions of dollars, and taking over Patrick's frontrunner spot, at least according to one poll. And now Reilly--who somehow managed to stay viable--is making a final aggressive push for the nomination that was supposed to be his all along.

Russell, my man: what more do you want?

Adam, You're right on about the Governor's race not being sleepy! Some reporters are not satisfied unless our candidates are not bludgeoning each other on a daily basis. Thankfully, that's not happening, which is one reason we should win this time!

Hear hear. As I've written before - http://www.bluemassgroup.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3045 - I can't understand why anyone who is interested in politics would think this race is "dull." IMHO, only those who are looking for blood on the floor are of that view. And, since a bit of blood was shed yesterday over the tax hooha, the race has suddenly become less "sleepy," according to these wiseguys. Bullshit. Politics isn't pro wrestling (or at least it's not supposed to be). Anyone who thinks it is, and is only interested in covering fights, should get a new job. I hear the WWF press office is hiring.

I think it's just plain cynicism. If the Globe called it exciting, they'd actually have to give decent coverage LOL. It's much better for sales to say its boring and write 10 articles about the same guy who, while crazy, didn't do what he claimed to do. I mean, doesn't that sound exciting?!

Well, the Globe has a history of being a pompous piece of crap and of being politically clueless in the past. So, why would this surprise us now?
