New In The Phoenix: Beacon Hill Cash Flow

In this week's issue of the Boston Phoenix, I look at the money that came and went among Massachusetts' officeholders, and lobbyists, in Deval Patrick's first year in office. It's out tomorrow, and online now:

Cash Carousel -- Many things changed this year on Beacon Hill, but not the power of the almighty dollar.

David, A strong and well-written article. 2 quibbles. First, the smaller one. Jarrett Barrios does not belong on the list of top fundraisers for 2007. Of his $541k raised, $535k was actually simply transfered from one account to another (it was raised in 2006 or prior years). I may be wrong about this, but that's how it appears on OCPF. Second, you write of $3.2 million overall take for state senators and nearly $5 million overall for state representatives: "Those are big numbers for a non-election cycle — comparable, in fact, with what incumbent candidates raised in 2006, when they were all facing re-election." While it's true that all faced re-election, almost none faced opposition. For most of them, there is no real difference between even and odd years, since their re-election is a formality.
