Chang-Diaz: $51,000 On Hand

Sonia Chang-Diaz has raised just over 100k this year, with about 30k on hand from last year; the campaign spent just over 80k, leaving a little more than $50,000 on hand as of Aug. 29, the end of the pre-primary filing period.

That's a fairly impressive amount to raise against an incumbent, although not on the eye-popping level of recent city political newcomers like Sam Yoon and John Connelly.[Correction: Connolly.]

Still, it leaves her campaign with enough to do several targeted mailings over the final stretch toward next Tuesday's primary against Dianne Wilkerson. One new piece, featuring "regular voter" testimonials (to contrast against Wilkerson's institutional support) hits today or tomorrow, according to Chang-Diaz campaign manager Deborah Shaw.

Wilkerson reported barely $5000 left on hand as of the end of August, after spending a little more than $150,000. But she's got less need for it, because of those "institutional supporters" that Chang-Diaz is secretly jealous of -- the ones who can offer all kinds of assistance in the final 7-10 days of a campaign.
