Barnicle On Huffington, And Other Notes

--Mike Barnicle has an article on Huffington Post (his first there since the primaries), in which he laments that the once-honorable John McCain is now MIA, "held captive by ideologues who dominate his strategy sessions and what is left of the Republican party." Safe bet that he'll be rained upon by the right for being a stooge of liberal MSNBC, both for the content and the venue of the piece. Safer bet that the criticism won't bother him.

--It's no surprise that there are ideologues of all stripes who leap to simple answers to complex issues, rather than actually take the time to learn anything about them, and then pronounce their conclusions as if obvious, unassailable fact. What's always frustrating is when those types rise to national prominence, where they have influence over millions of people. So, it's nice to see Byron York exposed.

--WaPo's Juliet Eilperin reports from NC:

Palin also made a point of mentioning that she loved to visit the "pro-America" areas of the country, of which North Carolina is one. No word on which states she views as unpatriotic.

I hope she's not suggesting a contrast with the area she was in before NC: New England.

--Conservative blogosphere superstar Glenn Reynolds is now leaning toward Bob Barr. Reynolds lives and votes in Tennessee, and could be a leading indicator of a decision that a fair number of folks, especially in the South (Barr is Georgian), may be considering as they start to see McCain's defeat as inevitable.

Reynolds is not a conservative.

He said he would vote for Barr, because McCain WOULD win Tennessee and his vote wouldn't matter.

Why don't you read it his blog?

I'll give you partial credit for that one. If you had bothered to drive up for her rally in Dover, NH (or even bothered to watch the videos or read the transcripts) you'd know that she wasn't referring to New England, but rather the People's Progressive Republic of Massachusetts.

I have to be honest, Dave, I've stopped reading your stuff. You're just "phoning them in" these days.

Like your earlier anti-Palin screed where you cited, as an example of Obama's vast executive experience, his running of a "successful non-profit organization.

Save me the trouble of reading your archives, and answer me this. have you written one word about Obama's constant stream of lies he's been feeding the American electorate regarding his relationship with ACORN and Ayers?

And, were you part of the "Destroy Joe the Plumber by ANY MEANS NECESSARY" alliance?

John McCain's reputation is that of a maverick, an outsider. Worked well in 2000 as he opposed the Democrats - - the party then in power. His current confusion in how to campaign effectively may rise from his challenging the status quo without losing support from Republicans that control the White House and are in pivotal positions at the Republican National Committee. Could be that Johnny Mac still harbors a deep resentment against the anti-war rhetoric and activities that were going on here at home while he was in a POW camp. Ayres may serve as a vehicle to express his anger at those days.

Sarah Palin is not avoiding all media, just the big-city media. As the linked article indicates, she's available to smaller city papers and conservative talk shows. She's solidifying her base in her effort to set up a small-town-vs-big-city division. Should Sarah appear on major media, her supporters would wonder, 'Why is she talking to those guys? She's one of us.'
