RNC Fundraising On Anti-Specter Anger

Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, has just sent out a fundraising email under the header: "Outrage over Arlen Specter."

"I hope Arlen Specter's party change outrages you," it begins.

According to the letter, Specter "told us [Republicans] all to go jump in the lake today." Worse, Specter "handed Barack Obama and his band of radical leftists nearly absolute power in the United States Senate."

Continuing, let's see.... "Obama's radical agenda... his left-wing voting record... the leftist Obama Democrats... their leftist plan... Obama's destructive agenda [bold in original]... income redistribution, health care nationalization, and a massive expansion of entitlements  [bold and underlines in original]..." well, you get the gist.

But Steele points out that we have survived traitors to the country before:

"Some will use Specter's defection as an excuse to fold the tent and give up. I believe that you are not one of those people. When Benedict Arnold defected to the British, George Washington didn't fold the tent and give up either. "

So, send money.

Oh wait! A postscript! (RNC fundraising emails always have a good postscript!)

"P.S. David, we need to respond to Senator Specter's decision to join President Obama's efforts to change America into a European Welfare State..." capitalization, needless to say, in original.

Well, it's understandable. If your base is a bunch of raving lunatic, you might as well try to make some decent coin off them.

Specter is an unprincipled opportunists who sensed he would probsbly not be reelected by the PA Republican prinary(just as Shelby new Democrats were out in AL).It's good riddence. His votes will be the same, whether Repub or 'crat. If

Obama continues his march to socialism, there will be Democrat defectors. It will be the media who makes the most hay out of Spectter's jump,"denying the Limbaugh led Repub psrty".It's

time for conservative Republican leaders,if any, to become vocal and educational. Obamas' proposal to prosecute members of the prior sdministration gave Repubs a "golden goose" opportunity to point out the potentially disasterous consequencies of this-- but I've heard little as yet. I will gladly support efforts toward effective action and reaction, but I will not support inaction--currently a Republican trademark. egveach
