Yoon And Flaherty Make It Tough To Choose
In my cover story last week about the upcoming Boston mayoral preliminary election, I noted that Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon, by not attacking one another, have made it difficult for voters to decide which one to pick as their choice to take on Mayor Menino in the final.
Well, now it's gotten ridiculous: this morning, as if to prove my point, Flaherty and Yoon went head to head on Phoenix sister-station WFNX's "My Song Versus Your Song" -- and the two of them USED THE SAME GODDAM SONG!!!!!!
And frankly, it was a pathetic choice -- Dropkick Murphy's Shipping Up To Boston. Great, great song, but come on, how lame and obvious is that? Especially for Irish-Southie Flaherty, especially on his first time on. At least Yoon has shown a strong range before this -- he's been the reigning champ for about five or six weeks -- with selections from Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, etc. Maybe he was trying to be funny, using the Dropkicks to beat the Irishman. I don't know; all I know is that they USED THE SAME GODDAM SONG!!!!!
Anyway, Yoon apparently won easily, which I suppose says something about the relative devotion of his followers. It also means Yoon is likely to have a weekly date on 'FNX at least through the preliminary.
