Kingsley Flood chart success to NPR segment

After a few days straight chillaxin atop Amazon’s Roots Rock download chart, Boston Americana-rock beacons Kingsley Flood’s album Dust Windows was finally bumped to the silver medal slot this morning. And it was by Gnant -- a pretty-faced Phoenix-based singer-songwriter who in 2008 appeared in MTV’s Made as the vocal coach of a tomboy chick who wanted to be a pageant queen. As Tony Wilson would say, “so it goes.”

But Kingsley Flood’s four-day rule of the Amazon chart was no doubt impressive, especially for a band still without a record label or proper management (we say proper because each in the Kingsley clan are all pretty savvy).

While we’d love to think the spike in popularity was a result of that stellar Cellars By Starlight piece we published in the Phoenix a few weeks ago, it might have more to do with a significant push from NPR over the weekend.

Kingsley Flood were guests on Sunday night’s Weekend Edition, and the 10-minute segment featured a Q&A with the band and broadcast of two full songs recorded at NPR headquarters in DC. With a listenership of more than 3 million on nearly 600 NPR stations across the country, clearly this didn’t fall on deaf ears.
