[phlipcam video] OFWGKTA @ the Paradise
Some accompanying video to Luke O'Neil's lament of America's youth.
I
must admit that I was a tad concerned that I was out of my element
while watching the "teenagers who pretend like they're going to fight
people on their skateboard" flood into the Paradise last night. I'm in
my mid-20s, my head is too big to rock a snapback, and while I do
wear skate shoes, it's mostly for their orthopedic value. I finished
college last year and actually enjoyed my time spent in higher
education, never once thinking "kill people, burn shit, fuck school," as
the song says. I've been on the OFWGKTA bandwagon for a while now, but all
the reviews pegging Goblin as a mess are pretty spot on, probably the group's first misfire in the position where they should've knocked it out.
But
none of this really mattered once the show started, and Tyler
front-flipped onto my face, ass first. Never once did I consider the hype, or Jimmy Fallon, or the
Neptunes, or whether or not I should feel guilty about enjoying their
music even though they have songs condoning rape and violence against
authority figures. And maybe I'm getting too old for this shit, as I sit
here a day later feeling like I ran a fucking 5K or some shit thanks to
being shoved around by a bunch of geeked-up high schoolers for an
hour-and-a-half. But at least I got some dope footage. Above is a
phlipcam vid of the first verse of "Yonkers" before being clubbed over
the head Blair Witch-style
by a crowd surfer.
Below is "Seven," recorded from a safer distance,
and stay tuned for some additional video courtesy of Michael Marotta, who posted up at the sidebar like a grown-ass man.
