[live recap + video] The Clippers + Sneeze kick off tour @ Wacky Kastle
THE CLIPPERS and SNEEZE kicked off their tour in sardine-like fashion last night at Wacky Kastle, and this was, without a doubt, the most well-attended show in an Allston basement all summer. Things were rowdy enough during ARVID NOE and EARTHQUAKE PARTY!'S set, but folks got really excited to give Sneeze and The Clippers a proper send-off. Shit was so hyphy that taking videos proved to be incredibly difficult. The ratio between people trying to cram into the tiny room and the amount of actual square footage in the room was… well, let’s just say it was really crowded.
Sneeze’s powerful guitars and pessimistic lyrics (and snazzy rattails) were a kick in the stomach after EP!’s powerfully happy set. Self-loathing twentysomethings got angry and sad (which everyone knows is the only thing that makes them happy) to Sneeze’s inebriating snarl-rock. People were crowding the front of the room so badly that it’s incredibly surprising that the band's frontman didn’t receive any bloody lips from getting the mic pushed into his face.
Then, the Clippers tore the Wacky Kastle apart, straight up. Their catchy brand of mathy punk defies typical song structure but had everyone singing along at the top of their lungs like a bunch of drunk bros singing along to Journey. Essentially, when frontman Josh Croteau politely requested at the beginning of the set for everyone to “move around like an asshole,” people happily obliged. The blurry, shaky mess of a video, although it’s not much to look at, perfectly captures the atmosphere at Wacky Kastle last night.
Sneeze and The Clippers are on tour across the country! They are still looking to fill in a couple of spots, so if you think you can help them, send them an email!
