A somber start to Boston Accents tonight, as we pour one out for DUSTIN HENGST of DAMONE, who passed away last week at the age of 39. The talented drummer was hospitalized for a few weeks with liver problems, and had been battling illness most of his life. The details and band reaction are in my On The Download post from Friday, but here we'll celebrate the music of Damone, which released three awesome records between 2002 and 2008, toured the world, and made a mark on Boston rock. Hengst also drummed for Bleu McAuley, who set up a PayPal account to raise money for the Hengst family (PayPal to dustinhengst@yahoo.com). RIP, bud.

DAMONE “Out Here All Night” – Kicking off the show with my favorite Damone track, in honor of Hengst, off the 2006 record of the same name. Track also appeared on Madden ’07.

DAMONE “Wait Another Minute” – Unreleased track, taken from Carly Carioli’s stash of August 2004 “rough mix demos.”

DAMONE “Out Of Your Mind” – Another selection off Carly’s stash, I think this ultimately became a b-side.

DAMONE “Frustrated Unnoticed” – Maybe Damone’s most well-known hit, from 2003’s From The Attic record, appeared in Freaky Friday, Veronica Mars, Rugrats, and other shows and films.

CALEB GROH “Catastrophic Culprit” – This week’s Mp3 of the Week in the Boston Phoenix, split hype with fellow GHouse artist Badknight, two artists poised to have a stellar 2012. Groh also took part in our second Phoenix Pop-Up show.

FUTURE CARNIVORES “What’s Unbelievable” – New track from Bo Barringer, Reuben Bettsak and crew, performing at Friday’s Tiger Mountain 2 in Cambridge alongside NYC’s The Living Kills and Soccer Mom, who we’ll spin late in the second hour.

THE WRONG SHAPES “Places I Used To Hunt” – Another Barringer project, this one a cello/guitar duo partnership with the Grownup Noise’s Rachel Arnold. Grab it here and catch them tomorrow night at Zuzu.

LETTERDAY “Don’t Go” – Thursday’s Mp3 of the Week and participants in the next CONVERSE in-store performance, Friday at 348 Newbury St. at 6pm. FREE and ALL-AGES. Letterday then releases new record Ready the following night, Saturday, December 17 at the Middle East Downstairs.

ONSLO “Slave Ship” – New track from this Polk Records trio, playing Tavern At The End of the World on December 20, then at O’Brien’s with Dead Cats Dead Rats on January 13. 2012, bitches, embrace it.

RADIO CONTROL “2015” – Monster track from Somerville duo, off April’s Hot Audio record, playing Radio on Sunday, December 18 with Math the Band.

COCKED N’ LOADED “(I Think I’ve Got The) Magic Touch” – Grab Thursday’s Phoenix for a spotlight on the CnL crew, who love Boston but not so much TAB The Band. Hopefully their new EP Friction will be done in time for New Year’s Eve, when they join Mellow Bravo and others in crushing the Middle East Downstairs. Sick fucking bill.

RULE “Bloodletter” – Continuing the cock-rock vibe with this supergroup, bringing together bloodlines of Bang Camaro, Dirty Truckers, BrownBoot, Township and Damn Personals in one holy union of rock.

VIVA VIVA “Nothing Getting Any Easier” – Converse powers Boston Accents, and they also power Boston’s best bands. This was recorded at the ‘Verse’s Rubber Tracks studio in Brooklyn, and will get released in the spring.

VANZETTI “Churchjumper” – Grimy rock mish-mash crew playing the Boston Common Gazebo for First Night, December 31 – sweet gig, y’all.

YOU CAN BE A WESLEY “Giants” – Latest video premiered on NME.com, featuring a prom theme filled with goth girls, dudes in drag, and smoking weed. That’s how you make a video.

CAMDEN “(Talking On The) Telephone” – A breakout pick for 2012, the latest from this behind the scenes quartet. Blondie liked to hang on the telephone, these dudes just talk on it. Rockers, they’re just like YOU and ME.

HOUR 2 – CHRISTMAS N’ BEATZ EDITION

STREIGHT ANGULAR “It’s Christmas” – This sit got finished like 58 seconds before Boston Accents started tonight, get a recap of it and four other Boston Rock holiday jams in Thursday’s Phoenix. Also, SA are playing the 3rd annual Rock N’ Soul Holiday Concert, Sunday, December 18 at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. Also on the bill are Casey Desmond, John Powhida, Barrence Whitfield, and a billion others.

ELDRIDGE RODRIGUEZ “Baby I’m Alone Tonight “Christmas Time” – Holiday loneliness from ER of the Beatings, the lead track off Christmastime on the Allston Brighton Line.

HALSTON “The Snowman’s Waltz” – Halston does Christmas! Quirky pop dons a Santa cap and dances around the cold, snowy ballroom. More deets on this in Thursday’s P H X.

THE BYNARS “How Does It Feel To Be In Love?” – Playing tomorrow night at the Lansdowne Pub with fun., a free show powered by WFNX. It’s the last Disorientation show of the year (Night 1: Joy Formidable, Night 2: Surfer Blood and Earthquake Party) RSVP here – first come first serve.

M.O.O.N. “Paris” – New sounds from the nephew of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy. Soon enough that tidbit won’t lead items like this, because the MOON EP is an intriguing stroke of downtempo electro that young Mr Stephen Gilarde decided to release on his own. Expect a breakout here.

ANDRE OBIN “Cinnamon (Casey Desmond Remix)” – Going well with the throbbing sounds of M.O.O.N., dusted off this sweet Desmond remix of one of Boston’s finest solo electronic music producers. Here's the original.

GLASS TEETH “Dead Dreamer” – And keeping the trend going with Xavier Glass’s dark dance project, new music coming in early 2012.

CASEY DESMOND “Talking To God” – As mentioned, she’s playing the 3rd annual Rock N’ Soul Holiday Concert next Sunday at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. The video for this track just hit 35,000 views. Where will it rank in the Boston Accents Top Songs of 2011?

BLACK LIGHT DINNER PARTY “Gold Chain” – NYC/Boston production quartet still anonymous, still awesome, still pulling Ron Jeremy for music video cameos.

THE CINNAMON FUZZ “In Your Hands” – Anthony J Resta with the assist on the Fuzz’s banger neon-pop single, released with a re-booted Cruise of the Century a few months ago. Opening for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr at the Brighton Music Hall this Friday, December 16.

THE FUTURE EVERYBODY “Ricochet” – Founding member and guitarist Morgan Terrinoni recently parted ways with the FuEv, but the band trudges on in a buzzy, organy, act of playful defiance. They’re at TTs on January 26 with BrownBoot, Animal Talk, and the Blackboard Nails.

STEPHIE COPLAN & THE PEDESTRIANS “Jerk” – Our darling down in NJ, who we won’t let forget she learned how to be awesome during her five years living in Somerville/Cambridge. Drummer Shane Considine is a Winthrop native.

POWERANIMAL “Come Out Tonight” – Salem trio showing great promise, loving that guitar fuzz sound

SOCCER MOM “(A) Natural History” – A sweet mix with the previous song, catch Soccer Mom at the Tiger Mountain party this Friday and on respectable Best of 2011 lists near you.

MEAN CREEK “The Comedian” – Closing it out with Boston Accents/WFNX/Boston Phoenix faves Mean Creek, who performed to a few thousand folks this past Friday at Night 2 of the WFNX Miracle on Lansdowne Street. I had the honor of introducing them, and I figured I’d heap tons of pressure on them by calling them “the greatest indie rock band to come out of Boston since the Pixies.” But it’s true. New record out in Spring 2012, and it’s massive.
