Boston Accents playlist 12.18.11: Phoenix 'Holiday EP,' My Dick (mp3!), Cassette, Mikael Hirsch, Bon Savants, Bleu

Holiday parties are a hell of a drug. Apologies for the tardiness of this week's playlist, but to make it up to America, I'll be back in the WFNX studio this Sunday, Christmas Day, to not only bust out a festive Boston Accents at 8pm, but to also crash the airwaves a few hours earlier to throw down a birthday playlist. I might just play Suede and Pulp songs, who knows? As far as Accents, anything goes. I might break off the entire Protokoll EP is I feel like it. So yeah, spend Christmas with me. Here's this past Sunday's playlist, plus a free mp3 from My Dick:

MY DICK “Do They Know It’s My Dick” – Kicking it off with the mysterious My Dick, a novelty act that will never not be novel. And hey – Santa comes early: download the My Dick holiday classic here:

DOWNLOAD: My Dick "Do They Know It's My Dick" [mp3]

MOON CREW “Born On Christmas Day” – The first track off the Boston Phoenix Holiday EP, a cover of the St. Etienne ‘90s-disco classic. Moon Crew is a collection of former Boston artists (Michael Potvin, DJ Volvox, Ming Ming, etc.) now living in Brooklyn. Peep the rad video.

BOSTON “More Than A Feeling (Christmas Mashup)” – Digging deep here, nicked from Oedipus Holiday special, which arrives down the chimney this Saturday on WFNX.

PARLOUR BELLS “O Holiday” – Noir-pop dips the mistletoe in molly; also from the Holiday EP, as are the next three tracks.

ELDRIDGE RODRIGUEZ “Baby I’m Alone Tonight (It’s Christmas)” – Already one of my favorite holiday songs ever, off the Christmas on the Allston-Brighton Line EP.

HALSTON “The Snowman’s Waltz” – Taking a dance, living in a trance, Halston’s got your seasonal romance.

STREIGHT ANGULAR “It’s Christmas” – Tireless effort from the Angular posse, who banged this one out with some friends on very short notice.

CASSETTE “Little Drummer Boy” – Throwback from a few years ago, as Potvin and Nathanael Bluhm (Mystery Roar) show Bowie and Bing a thing or two.

HAPPY JAWBONE FAMILY BAND “Martian Santa” – Repping Vermont in the Holiday EP, off the collective’s full-length holiday record, Vol. 1: Operation Ho Ho Ho.

THE HUSH NOW “Happy New Year, Dear” – Seasonal luminaries have done Christmas, have done Halloween, now tackle New Year’s Eve.

SPIRIT KID “It’s Christmastime I’m Feeling Lazy” – Cheer up, Emeen.

ALOUD “Happy Effing Christmas” – Just wrapped up a month-long weekly residency at O’Brien’s, Aloud offers holiday tidings the only way we can relate to.

MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES “Xmas Time” – Dickie Claus and crew deliver the goods, and before they hit the House of Blues for the 14th annual Hometown Throwdown next week, we gotta admit: the new record, the Magic of Youth, is pretty good.

JULIANA HATFIELD “Make It Home” – I ask for Juliana Hatfield for Christmas every year...

BLEU “I Want My Christmas Back” – ...And I end up with is feeling Bleu.

HOUR 2, BACK TO REGULAR PROGRAMMING

DO NOT FORSAKE ME OH MY DARLING “First We Take Manhattan” – Many things going on for Michael J. Epstein in the new year, including Darling Pet Munkee release party 01.14.12 at the Mid East and a year-long Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library song perseveration project.

VIVA VIVA “Dead In Your Tracks” – Another epic jam, this one recorded down in Brooklyn at Converse’s Rubber Tracks studio.

ANIMAL TALK “Into the Sun” – New band I’m psyched on, playing a sweet bill 01.26.12 at TT The Bear’s with Blackboard Nails, Future Everybody and BrownBoot.

PARASOL “Firecracker” – To be featured in “Class of…” my annual roundup of the best new bands you need to know about. This kicks off the Crush Season EP quite nicely.

MIKAEL HIRSCH “Lions” – New to me, but posted online back in January. Moody, folky, also shoegazingly sweeping sound from the Lions EP.

CALEB GROH “Catastrophic Culprit” – Another “Class of…” act, one poised to have a huge 2012. Recent Mp3 of the Week

NIGHT FRUIT “Seablood” – Classic jam from “Class of 2011” cover darlings, just released new Dark Horse 7-inch at Great Scott a few weeks ago.

GREY VALLEY GHOST “The Way We Kill” – One of the best tracks of 2011, where will it end up in my Boston Accents Top 10 of 2011? Find out Thursday.

THE FAUX “Synthetic Hearts” – Futuristic synthpunk from the early 2000s. Still vicious.

FELIX & VOLCANO “Got Luv Fer Now” – Vocalist/programmer Sam Ueda interned for me in the Phoenix music department over the summer, and impressed the fuck out of me with this gritty dance banger. Was originally called “Got Luv,” but when he told the producer it was called “Got Luv -- Fer Now,” the name stuck.

M.O.O.N. “Paris” – Electronic throb from Stephen Gilarde, first track off the MOON EP, one of the more engaging efforts of the last quarter of 2011.

GLASS TEETH “X” – Dark as fuck electronic purr and growl. Also featured in “Class of 2012.”

THE BON SAVANTS “Between The Moon And The Ocean” – What the world needs in 2012 is a Bon Savs reunion. Trivia: What were they originally called?

YOU CAN BE A WESLEY “Creatures” – You can be on NME.com!

WILD LIGHT “New Year’s Eve – Closing out with another New Year’s sentiment, because we’re already over this Christmas nonsense.

Trivia answer: The Prostitutes.
